• A Storm of Shot and Shell The battlefield changed dramatically as a result of the accuracy at long distances produced by the rifled musket. No longer could armies march shoulder to shoulder to within a very short distance of their enemy. The rapid advance of technology made the military tactics of Napoleon obsolete.
